13 Months

Time for our 13 month update on Max, but I don't have much to report. His favorite word is still "bubble", his favorite food is still mac and cheese, and his favorite toy is still the Wii mote. We were laughing the other day that he now looks like a "skinny" baby. I never thought we'd see the day, but he really has thinned out. Unfortunately, he's had a cold this week, so he's been less perky than usual. However, on a scale of 1-10 he's still an 11 to us! Cute, funny, and smart- the baby trifecta.

4th Anniversary

Today is our fourth anniversary, and I've got to say it's a little anti-climactic. I'm still too sore to do much of anything, so we don't have anything planned. On top of that, we're a little bummed because our closing got pushed to Monday the 28th instead of tomorrow. Seriously, how long can it take to prepare paperwork? Anyways, we didn't really do much last year either because Max was so little and SO colicky. Next year we're going to have to go all out.

Despite the problems today, I am so thankful to have spent the last four years married to such a wonderful man. We are also just a few weeks short of being together for five years. Half a decade, yikes! The time has gone so fast, but that's mostly because we've been having so much fun. We've both grown and changed in a lot of ways, but we've been so lucky to get to do that together. Part of what makes being married so fun is that Darreck and I compliment each other so well. He's more big picture; I'm very detailed oriented. He is loud and fun and outgoing; I am thoughtful and quiet. I've learned so much from him and tried so many new things because of him. I hope he feels the same way about me:)

So, now we start planning for next year! Wish us better luck.

Wisdom Teeth

So, I had my bottom two wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and life hasn't been quite as fun as usual since. Actually, the extraction went very well, mostly because I don't remember any of it, but the problem has been that I can't take the vicodin that was prescribed for me. So, I figured dealing with the pain from my teeth was better than not being able to keep food down, and I've felt better this afternoon now that I'm narcotic free.

The other funny thing is just how much my cheeks have swollen. Every time I think they can't get any bigger, they do. Such is life. And, in case you were wondering, I'm not posting pictures of myself. You take pictures of things you want to remember, and I do not want to remember this.

Grad School

It seems in the summer that posts get longer and longer apart. The house is also a disaster, and not just because we're preparing to move. It seems like, with Darreck home more, I get absolutely nothing done. We're going to have to figure out something or life is going to go to ruin by August.

Anyways, Darreck got his official acceptance into UGF's Masters in Organizational Management. He's just now choosing classes for next fall. It's going to be nuts with him in grad school full-time and working full-time, but that just means that he'll get done faster and life can go back to normal. Whatever normal is in our household, that is.

Things are moving along nicely with the house, and we're hoping to close next Friday. Barring any last minute surprises, everything should go smoothly. We're getting really excited and even having a garage sale tomorrow to clean out the last of the stuff we don't need. Yesterday we sold our bed, old dining room set, and Darreck's green couch, so we're off to a good start. We've also ordered our new bed and are looking at couches for the living room. It's so much fun getting new stuff!!! Hehe...

I'll try to update more, especially as we get into the house. Until then, have fun!

Swimming Like a Fish

Max started swimming lessons at the Peak this week, and we've had mixed results so far. His first day with dad was an unmitigated disaster. He screamed the entire time, and we kept getting that look from the other parents. You know the look. The look that says, "really, you can't even keep your kid quiet for one class? really!". So, hoping it was just mommy separation anxiety, I went with him today and things went much better. He's just going through a little clingy phase. Watch, come August, right when Darreck goes back to school, he'll decide he wants nothing to do with me.

As for the lessons, he still isn't fond of getting his face wet or spinning around in the water. I'm also afraid he's developing a fear of cups because that's how we poor water over his head. However, he is learning to hold his breath and he really enjoys chasing after the little plastic squirt toys. And, he loves chasing the "bubbles"- let me explain:

Max's first word, outside of mama and dada and kay-kay, is bubble. It refers to anything round and fun to play with, like actual bubbles, balls, and balloons. The bubbles at swim lessons are giant blow-up balls. He's expanded from saying bubble to also saying purple- pupple (like bubble with p's). It's fun that he's learning these words and how to associate them. With bubble, he walks around the house practicing saying it all day and then, when he sees something he considers a bubble, he'll point. Such a smartie-pants. I'm just looking forward to the day when he can tell me what he needs- food, nap, drink... you get the idea. It shouldn't be long now!
