Max's Birthday

Happy birthday to our intelligent, curious, thoughtful, and inquisitive 7 year old boy! We started out birth week Sunday at family dinner. Mom made the mistake of asking Max what he wanted for dinner, and he was VERY specific. He requested, and I quote: steak, corn corn on the cob, mashed potatoes with gravy, and cesar salad. He had remarkable specificity with every item he mentioned. The kid knows exactly what he wants, and he's not afraid to ask for it. Good for him!

Monday, his actual birthday, we took him out for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings (once again, his request), and he got the largest piece of complimentary cake I've ever seen. It was kind of crazy. We also opened his presents from his family. Darreck and I got him a new bike, which he loves. He's been riding it to school everyday. He picked out his own present from Grandma Linda and Papa this year- new clothes and a soccer ball from Scheels. Lucky kid.

We took a birthday hiatus for a few days, but we were back at the partying today with his actual birthday party. Max requested a sports party, so we tried to take the weather out of the equation by renting the community rec center. It was a great idea! The kids spent the majority of the time playing basketball, soccer, and kickball, but we mixed it up with rounds of different forms of tag in between. It was so much fun! It was loud and crazy and barely controlled chaos, but the kids had a blast. That's really all that matters, right? We also ate cake and opened presents. I love planning and hosting parties, and lucky for me, my boys love to party. This was definitely a winner!

A Week Away From Home

This was the craziest week we've had in awhile. Darreck went to Spokane Monday thru Thursday to attend a training for work, and then I went with my mom and grandma to Lethbridge Friday and Saturday. Like I said, crazy.

Darreck's training was actually a training on how to be a trainer. Fun times. He's not a fan of business travel, and he was very apprehensive about going. Of course, though, it was totally fine if not a little boring. He went and saw movies two nights, including an IMAX 3D one. Rough life. Back at home, I hosted a baby shower and took Max to his first baseball game. We was great that my family helped out so much during my lessons. I'm very lucky.

Darreck got back late Thursday, and I left Friday morning with Gram and Mom. We went to Time Out For Women, a church conference, in Lethbridge, although we stayed with Aunt Marilyn in Raymond. It's been awhile since I've been up to Canada, and it was a relaxing weekend away. The musical acts were good, and the speakers were great. We also got in a fair amount of shopping.

However, now I'm happy that everyone is home and staying home for the foreseeable future. May is busy enough without Darreck and I running around everywhere. We're entering the home stretch for until the end of the school year. We can make it!
