As usual, I'm behind with the family blog, but I couldn't pass by the opportunity to share pictures from Max's stage debut. Two weeks ago he played the lead penguin in the Missoula Children Theater's production of Aladdin. It was a very long week, mostly because we hosted on of the directors in our home, but it was so worth it in the end. He was adorable saying his one line- "I speak for all penguins when I say, we're not fond of the cold!"- and his costume was really cute.
It all started Sunday when we met the director, Martine, who stayed with us throughout the week. Max's audition was Monday, and he wowed the directors, even though he was guaranteed a part since we were hosting. Every night after school he had rehearsals, which he LOVED! Friday, Darreck saw him perform during the student matinee, and I, along with my family, saw him in the main performance that evening. The play was kind of a disaster, to be honest, but the kids were so cute it didn't really matter. After the show, my parents stayed with the littles, and I took Max to the wrap party at Howard's pizza. Oh yeah, we did it up right. Saturday evening we hosted both of the directors for dinner which led to an hours long discussion of religion and the importance of family. I actually gave them both Book of Mormons before they left on Sunday. It was a really good experience all around.
Since then, we've been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. Since it's been in the 50's and even low 60's, we've walked Max to school a few times and spent a lot of time playing outside. It's amazing how much good weather affects my food. I love the sun!
In other news, we headed to the church a few weeks ago to slay Goliath with slingshots and marshmallows for Family Home Evening. It was a leftover prop from mom's seminary class, and it was so much fun! Seriously, a great family activity.
I also accompanied Max to his school chili feed/barn dance/book fair a few days back. My parents were kind enough to watch Luke and Jack, so I got to spend some one-on-one time with my oldest. We had a blast talking over dinner and pouring over books. Max saved his allowance for weeks to buy books, and he walked out with three fabulous choices. I'm so proud of my little reader! However, he skipped the dancing, not that I totally blame him. There's nothing quite like an elementary school dance.
Last but not least, some good friends are going through a rough time, so we sent them a picture of us in their family "team colors" in a show of support. It was a great chance for one of those patented, crazy family selfies. I still can't believe Luke and Jack are both smiling at the camera.

Darreck's Promotion
I'm a little late starting off the blog this year, but at least I have good news to post first thing! Darreck was promoted this week to supervising counselor at the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind. The former supervisor, stepped down after over 40 years, and now Darreck has the chance to step into a great legacy. We're certainly excited as a family, but it's also going to mean some more changes- more sacrifices. Darreck's new contract will be longer, which means more working during the summer, and his days off will change next year, which could mean a major change to my teaching schedule. We'll have to see how it all goes, but mostly right now we're excited to see how things shape up for our family over the coming months.
We're so proud of him for how hard he works, both to support our family and to improve the lives of special needs children, young adults, and their families throughout the entire state. It's so cool that he can spend his career making our corner of the world a little bit better.
