Endings

My was crazy. Seriously crazy. However, this past week has been more of an emotional ride than anything else. First, I hosted my spring recital, this time at the Ursuline Centre. My favorite part of recital is seeing how far everyone has come over the past year. While recital might not seems exciting from a listening perspective, the real thrill is seeing how much these kids have learned since starting lessons. I'm always blown away. This was also Max's first time playing both piano and violin. He chose violin shortly before his birthday, and he's been playing for about a month now. So far so great! He played Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star as per tradition. It was a pretty special moment for me.

Next, we said goodbye to Luke's preschool yesterday. It amazes me that after all the doctors and tests and therapists, he's come out the other side developmentally normal and full of life. Luke is stubborn, energetic, tenacious, and loving. He's such a special little man, and he's really blossomed these past few months in preschool. His field day was a blast! We had so much fun! We love Ursuline and the unforgettable Mrs. Sommer. We'll certainly miss her this year, but he's also looking forward to kindergarten next year. He's going to rock it!

Also yesterday, Kayla graduated from high school. When did she grow up!? We had her party last Monday, which was very fun and well attended, and then Max and I attended her graduation last night. She completed high school with a 3.95, participated in varsity golf, was a national qualifier in Lincoln-Douglas debate, was elected drum major in marching band, and played first chair trumpet in youth orchestra. But beyond all that, she's grown into a kind, compassionate, logical adult. Next year she's going to BYU-Provo in fulfillment of a lifelong dream. She's so ridiculously excited! I don't quite get the BYU thing, but it floats her boat ;) That's really all that matters. We're all so proud of her and the woman she's become.
