Grandpa Hale's Passing
Today Darreck's beloved grandpa, Deloy Hale, passed away in Elgin, Oregon. Although this was a long time coming, we're still going to miss having Grandpa Hale as part of our lives. However, we take comfort knowing that he is being reunited with family that has gone before.
Darreck was especially close to Grandpa because they lived on the same property when Darreck was a boy. "The Property", as most of the family refers to it, was a piece of land with three houses on it in Oregon City, Oregon. Darreck remembers always doing chores for Grandpa to earn money, and getting to play in his house daily as a child. Darreck has some really amazing memories of his Grandpa, something that he is extremely grateful for.
I first met Grandpa when Darreck and I were engaged. He and his wife, Celeste-"Granny"- came to visit us during our engagement and then attended our wedding. Grandpa was always very calm and loved to talk, especially about the church and politics. We found out during our engagement that he married his first wife, Ramona, in the Cardston temple, the same temple we were married in. He told us that, back in his day, the only way to get to the temple was through Glacier Park's winding mountain roads, and that he was deathly afraid of heights. When Max was born, we decided to give him the middle name Deloy to honor Grandpa. Max had the chance to meet him once when he was almost 2 months old.
We'll miss Grandpa, but we are reassured by our knowledge that we will be together again someday. He had a rough last few years, and it's comforting to know that he's no longer and pain and has regained all his mental faculties. We look forward to being reunited with him in the future.
